Berlin, Germany
Both days in Berlin were rainy and dreary. I wish there would have been better weather because the buildings were beautiful! The city is so spread out & there was a lot to do in two days. The first day we got there we visited Checkpoint Charlie where there was a piece of the Berlin Wall and a museum. We decided not to do the museum since we had already been through so many on our study tour. Next we went to the Berlin Cathedral and walked around the inside. When you climb to the top you go outside and walk around to see a beautiful view of Berlin. I can’t imagine what this view looks like in the summer when it’s sunny and clear! Our last sight of the day was the Berlin Wall. Some parts had fallen down and were placed in the area inside the rest of the wall. There were informational plaques inside as well. I imagined the Berlin Wall to be totally different from what it was. I didn’t realize that the wall was in use until 1990 and I didn’t expect there to be graffiti all over them. To end our day of traveling and sight seeing we went to a cute little pub where we played cards and ate dinner. The next morning we started the day early & went to the Olympic Stadium. Unfortunately, there was a soccer game that day so we couldn’t go inside. We almost bought tickets from the scalper to go to the game, but we had so much more that we wanted to see so we passed. After that we visited the Charlottenburg Palace. I wish we could’ve taken pictures of the inside because the bedrooms and grand hall were amazing! We stopped to get lunch afterward at a really yummy cafe. They had the best caprese sandwich and chocolate chip cookies! Next we visited the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Reichstag building, Brandenburg Gate, and Anhalter Bahnhof. We finished surprisingly early in the day and decided to go shopping! We started off at this giant department store called KaDeWe. I finally found a ripped, oversized jean jacket I have been looking for at the TopShop in there! I also found a pair of fuzzy black slide ons, similar to the Steve Madden ones. When we left the department store there was a long road of other stores like Mango, Adidas, Adidas Originals, Nike and Zara. I found a cute sweatshirt dress in Zara & a little gift for Zach at Adidas! We finished the night off at an Irish Pub where we got chicken fingers and beer. I had the best cider draft, even better than Angry Orchards! Berlin definitely wasn’t my favorite place I have visited so far, but it was cool to see the historical sites & the shopping wasn’t bad either!
