Lyon and Annecy, France
This past weekend I went to Lyon, France. Holly and I wanted to go to a less touristy place and have a chill weekend since we both have a bunch of midterms this upcoming week. We got into the city around 1:00pm and went to the hotel to check in. After we set our stuff down we headed into the main part of Lyon. The weather was amazing all weekend-mid 60’s and sunny! We got some gelato and walked around the city. I had read about a little desert place that we had to go to so we put it in our maps and started walking. It was a solid hour walk from where we were and the entire thing was steps. After our little leg workout we finally got to Goûter. The website that told me we had to go here also said we had to get their macaroons. I’d never had macaroons before but decided to get them and try something new. They were so good!! After our (second) sweet stop we headed back to the hotel where my little sister, Mia, met us! Mia is currently living in Paris as a foreign exchange student. It was so nice to finally see her. This was the first time the program let her leave Paris to travel so she was really excited to come to Lyon. It was around 9pm at this point and none of us had eaten real food yet so we ordered room service, got in our robes, and watched some French TV until we fell asleep. We let ourselves sleep in a bit on Saturday morning then went into the city for brunch. Mia and I got some sort of mimosa that was a purple/pink color. It did not have orange juice in it but it definitely had some tequila; a very interesting combination. After brunch we walked to the train station because we were taking a bus to Annecy, France for the afternoon. Annecy was so beautiful. We got there just in time to watch the sun set behind the mountains and lake. After watching the moon rise and taking a bunch of pictures, we continued walking until we hit an area of town filled with restaurants and shops. We stopped to eat fondue and drink some rosé outside of one of the restaurants. If you ever get a chance to go to these places, you definitely should! On Sunday we woke up and went to the train station. It was kind of hard saying bye to Mia. I’ll see her in two weeks which is nice, but after being kind of homesick this past week it was tough to see a familiar face then have to say bye again so soon. I’m looking forward to my family coming for Spring Break and before I know it I’ll be home! All in all it was the perfect weekend. Now time to go back to Luxembourg for a week of midterms (yes, we do sometimes have school), wish me luck! Next stop: Paris!
